5th Annual Alexandria Guitar Festival
July 15 to 23, 2006
Alexandria, Virginia

The 5th Annual Alexandria Guitar Festival is sponsored by the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and is held at the Athenaeum at 201 Prince Street in Alexandria, Virginia. This year's event includes a Suzuki Guitar Institute, a Guitar Concert Series and Master Classes.

The artistic lineup includes, Nathan Fischer, Stephen Aron, Ricardo Cobo, Nicholas Goluses, Julian Gray, Ken Meyer, Tracy Anne Smith. Matthew Slotkin, Soloduo, Benjamin Verdery.

The city of Alexandria offers a charming historical profile and insight into the development of the United States. It is rich with images from the Revolutionary and Civil War periods, including 18th century town houses with hanging gas lanterns and paved cobble-stone streets. Among the many things to experience include George Washington's town home, walks along the Potomac River, a wide variety of coffee shops, taverns, markets, walled gardens and forts.

The Athenaeum plays a small role in the history of Alexandria. It began as the Old Dominion Bank in 1851 and was later used as a library and a church. At the time of the Civil War, the Athenaeum was turned into a commissary headquarters for occupying Union troops. It is now a gallery for the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and offers the perfect blend of intimacy and ambiance for salon guitar music.
