J. Eisenberg wins Rodrigo Riera Guitar Composition Competition

The Jury of the Third International Guitar Rodrigo Riera Composition Competition has awarded the Prize of $10,000 to the work Prelude, Choral and Fugue by Alexandre Eisenberg Alexandre J. Eisenberg was born in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil - in 1966, where he took his BA in music - flute - and his MA in music - composition - at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He also studied solfege, harmony and counterpoint in the Jerusalem Rubin Academy - Israel. |

Mr. Eisenberg has been an active flutist and composer since 1985, having participated in several concerts, recitals and festivals. He premiered many works by contemporary Brazilian composers and was principal flute with the Amazonas Philharmonic from 1997 to 1999. He has had works commissioned by prominent Brazilian performers, such as Celso Woltzenlogel, Nicolas Barros and Fábio Adour, as well as by festivals and competitions such as the Bienal de Música Brasileira Contemporânea, Estréias Brasileiras no CCBB, and the Concurso Nacional de Flauta da ABRAF (1997). In 1999, Mr. Eisenberg won the Rodrigo Riera International Guitar Composition Competition in Caracas - Venezuela. Now, he is a composition doctoral student in the Indiana University School of Music - USA, where he was awarded a Chancellor's Fellowship for distinguished graduate students, and is an associate instructor of composition. In 2001, Mr. Eisenberg was awarded a Capes Foundation Scholarship from the government of Brazil. In his free time, Mr. Eisenberg is an amateur researcher on religion, psychology and history. |
