Sharon Isbin CD Receives Grammy For Rouse Concerto
A GRAMMY was awarded for the Christopher Rouse Guitar Concerto written for and performed by Sharon Isbin. Christopher Rouse won a GRAMMY Award for 'Best Classical Contemporary Composition' from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences for his 'Concert de Gaudi for Guitar & Orchestra' written for and performed by Sharon Isbin (Teldec New Line 8573-81830-2). It marks the first time a guitar concerto has ever received a GRAMMY in this category.

Isbin is joined by the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon, Portugal and conductor Muhai Tang. The award was announced at the 44th annual GRAMMY Awards on February 27, 2002 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in a televised ceremony broadcast to over 1.7 billion viewers in 175 countries.

Isbin's CD also includes the world premiere recording of 'Concerto for Guitar & Orchestra (Yi2)' by Tan Dun, who won this year's GRAMMY for 'Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture' for 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.'

Sharon Isbin received a GRAMMY Award in 2001 for her solo disc 'Dreams of a World', and is a three time nominee.

Worldguitarist asked Sharon about her impression of the week:

"It was an exciting week in Los Angeles, starting with a workshop I gave with rocker Steve Lukather for Grammy in the Schools, and ending with the Awards festivities. It was enormously gratifying to see Chris' terrific guitar concerto win. While at the hoopla, I ran into fellow nominee Dr. Ruth and reminded her that she'd heard a recital of mine in Aspen a couple summers ago, but she had no recollection ....hmmm... does that mean too much sex is bad for the brain?"
