Solo Performance

Solo Guitarist for Weddings & Private Events

The solo Spanish guitar is, in my opinion, the perfect instrument for a wedding or a relaxed drinks reception. The harp is a beautiful instrument, but the sound does not carry so well. A string quartet is also great, but it is very classical, so it tends to appeal to a broader range of guests. I feel that the classical/Spanish guitar can play a mixture of pop songs arranged for classical guitar (old and new), classics from the American songbook, Latin American music, and of course, classical and flamenco music. People who do not generally listen to classical guitar appreciate Eric Clapton when played in this style; classical lovers admire the classical repertoire and also enjoy the aesthetics of the instrument when playing other genres, and additionally, the guitar is maybe the most relatable instrument – it is surprising how many people have learned some guitar at some point in their lives.

Live Guitar to Create the Right Atmosphere

Solo guitar is particularly suited to occasions where the music needs to be elegant, distinctive and flexible.

With the right sound settings, the music of a solo Spanish guitar can be enjoyed while not impeding conversation. Instead, it sets the perfect backdrop when chatting over a drink and canopé.

Guitarists are also usually quite ‘low maintenance’  – just a socket and a chair, and they are good to go. Then, if the position needs to change because of the weather, or even if the guests did not gather where they were anticipated to gather, then they can relocate easily and quickly.

David’s repertoire draws on a lifetime of performing and travelling. Having studied in Seville, Spain, he has a broad repertoire in this genre and also draws on his time travelling throughout the world. The repertoire for your event can be tailor-made, drawing on Spanish and classical guitar, jazz and carefully chosen arrangements of well-known music.

Weddings

Live solo guitar can accompany several different parts of a wedding day.

Wedding Ceremony

The intimacy of solo guitar makes it particularly well suited to a ceremony.

Music can be chosen for the arrival of guests, the entrance of the bride or couple, the signing of the register and the recessional.

If there is a particular piece of music that has special significance to you, please ask about the possibility of preparing a guitar arrangement especially for the occasion.

Drinks Reception

Solo guitar works beautifully during a drinks or cocktail reception.

It provides enough presence to create an atmosphere while still allowing guests to talk, meet one another and enjoy the occasion.

The repertoire can move between elegant Spanish and classical guitar, jazz and more familiar music according to the character of the event.

Wedding Breakfast (Dinner)

Live guitar can also provide discreet musical accompaniment during dinner.

For smaller and more intimate weddings in particular, an acoustic guitarist can create a warmer and more personal atmosphere than recorded background music.

Private Parties & Corporate Events

David is also available for private celebrations, receptions, dinners, launches and corporate events.

A solo guitarist requires relatively little space and can work particularly well in settings where a full band would be inappropriate.

Performances can range from understated background music to a more focused concert-style presentation depending on the event.

For events outside the UK, international bookings can be discussed directly.

Planning Your Event

Every event is different, so the easiest way to begin is to send a few details:

the date
venue or location
type of event
approximate number of guests
which part of the occasion you would like live music for
any particular musical requests

David performs both in the UK and internationally.
