A Week Aboard Viking Sea
Posted on: 14 July 2026

I spent the last week aboard the Viking Sea cruise ship. I performed the debut performance of Djangonaughts, alongside my good friend and excellent guitarist and entertainer, Mark Hussey.
The Djangonaughts is a new duo project that Mark and I have put together and are very excited about. We were invited to perform our debut show aboard Viking Sea, a luxury cruise line that has been inviting Mark back as a guest entertainer for many years and kindly chose to take a gamble on our new show. We performed in the smaller live venue, which was perfect for that ‘Paris Hot Club’ vibe reminiscent of the original Django Reinhardt performances. Our setlist included such classics as ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, ‘Minor Swing’, ‘Autumn Leaves’, and Honeysuckle Rose’.
But back to the ship…. it was my first time aboard a cruise ship, and I didn’t really know what to expect. I must admit that the concept had never really appealed to me previously, but I understand the allure a lot better now. It was a serene environment conducive to complete relaxation, with every aspect of comfortable living thought of and catered for.
Personally, I loved going for an early morning stroll along the top deck and then doing some guitar practice on the sea-facing balcony with a spectacular backdrop. We boarded the ship in Athens, Greece, and sailed through the Ionian Sea and up through the Adriatic to Venice, stopping at Corfu, Dubrovnik and Split on the way.
