Live Guitar and World Music at Kozluyalı on Turkey’s Aegean Coast

Yesterday I played at Kozluyalı Glamping with my good friend and excellent musician Erdem Güreler.

Kozluyalı is a secluded, upmarket retreat on Turkey’s North Aegean coast. The nearest town is Assos, and it is directly across the water from Lesvos Island – in fact, we played facing the audience with Lesvos as our backdrop. Erdem often performs at this venue during the summer months, but it was my first time. We drove through olive trees, beautiful stone villages and winding coastal roads to arrive at the ’boutique resort’.

What struck me about Kozluyalı was the crowd it attracted. Although the setting feels wonderfully remote, many of the guests had come down from Istanbul: artists, musicians, designers and other people from the city’s creative world, escaping to the Aegean coast to relax, eat, drink and party.

We performed during dinner but had a dance floor directly in front of us, and by the end of the evening had the majority of guests dancing to our music. We were also booked for a private party the following night at a chalet just a few hundred metres from the venue.
